WUSHU MOON MAGIC PLOT: After female photographer Byrd is told by her boss that her work is getting stale, she ventures out on a final assignment sans camera. Only allowed to pack the two lenses already lodged in her head, she must prove she can still find a fresh view. The nature of Byrd’s assignment is to find the right angle by which to “capture” the essence of the human condition.

Stripped of her own resources—the guise of capturing others pleasure and pain—finally Byrd must face her own. She travels through a foreign land into the underbelly of the overseas Chinese Diaspora, where specific though abstract clues lead her to the Hungry Ghost Festival in Vietnam and then overland to Malaysia. With a fresh angle as yet unresolved, Byrd follows the clues further down the coast to Singapore and stumbles upon yet another Chinese celebration, the Mooncake Festival. Guided by lanterns and haunted by ghosts, Byrd gets lost and found in a culture oozing the duality of both—light and dark, beauty and destruction, birth and death.

The magical journey that ensues is a tapestry threaded together by tantalizingly beautiful and chillingly raw landscapes, an amalgamation of historical fact and fictitious characters. The reality and mysticism of Byrd’s travels collide one fated night when she is tested to see through a new lens—the one illuminated by a seductively full Harvest moon and its Wushu Moon Magic.  It is then that Byrd must find a way to bring the truth of what she sees into focus again.
