Within a few years of studying Astrology at the Houston Institute of Astrology, I became very interested in the work of British Jungian Analyst/Astrologer, Liz Greene, and Howard Sasportas, her partner, now deceased. I ordered a Psychological Horoscope Analysis in 1988, authored by Liz Greene, and this report gave a description of my own Shadow. This part of my character was completely foreign to me until two years later, when I heard some tapes by a Jungian analyst-in-training who was also an Episcopalian priest. These tapes led me to Jung's work of analytical psychology and the information about our Shadow.

Since the late 1980s, astrology has attracted some brilliant psychologists and independent thinkers, and many are well versed in Jungian theory. I have studied astrology for 21 years now and feel it will be a life-long project, as this subject is so vast. People who read about astrology in the newspaper columns have no idea how incredibly complicated and detailed it actually is.

Being a 5-planets-in-Libra woman, with the North Node in the 7th, I have focused primarily on relationships, the 7th house (the marriage house, which is also the house of open enemies, i.e., the Shadow in us all) ruler of the 7th and aspects to Venus and Mars. Libra, being the archetype of marriage, harmony and balance, is the part of all of us that seeks to form healthy relationships with others. We all have Libra in our charts, not just the people born under the sun sign of Libra.

For the past 15 years I have studied analytical psychology on my own by taking courses at the C. G. Jung Education Center in Houston, Texas; by studying under psychological Astrologers such as Glenn Perry, Ph.D. in San Rafael, California, director of The Association of Astro Psychology (AAP); and by reading extensively on the subject of the Shadow.

However, what I have to share and teach others comes from my own life experiences. I also watch people. I listen to their stories and these Shadow projections are what I see happening to a lot of people in their relationships over and over. When I learned about the Shadow and started to consciously notice the experiences with others that kept repeating in my own life, my relationships with others and with myself actually got better. I found out that when two people are committed to making their relationship work, who love each other enough to be willing to be REAL and vulnerable with their thoughts and feelings, accept each other for who they really are (not who they would like for that person to be or who they originally thought they were — a projection), this information can create a bond and a deep and lasting friendship and true love that couldn’t really exist before. Finally I was able to understand for the first time in my life what it is that creates these huge gaps between people and that it is a primary reason for divorce and friendships ending prematurely.

This work is not just for couples. Our shadow affects our relationships with friends, lovers, husbands, wives, cousins, children, bosses, co-workers, parents, siblings and others. All of these relationships will improve significantly if you can become conscious of your own Shadow.

I decided to teach this class in a simple enough form so that everyone, not just those in analytical, psychological or astrological circles, could apply this valuable information to their lives. I have been teaching others about the Shadow now for 11 years. This is my my goal and I wholeheartedly dedicate myself to sharing this information.

Owning your own Shadow is not an easy task. According to Robert Johnson, author of Owning Your Own Shadow, it is a life’s work, and it takes a tremendous amount of courage and self-honesty. To do this work we have to subject our ego to ruthless self-reflection as the Universe continually gives us an abundant supply of these repetitive patterns. But the pain and effort, because Shadow work takes effort, is well worth it. Experiences that have puzzled you for years will become perfectly clear once you can understand C.G. Jung's concept and own your own Shadow. You will learn to accept your own humanity and that of others, and in that loving acceptance, change is easier. We grow. And like Beauty embracing the Beast, we learn to love.

For COUPLES interested in doing SHADOW WORK, I will first meet with each partner and then the two of them together. The cost is $300 for these three sessions and includes a natal report for each partner and a compatibility report for the two people. Sessions are an hour each time and are only available prepaid and by appointment.
