The Undiscovered Self: A Must Read

First published in my Substack on March 19, 2026
I was moved by Tucker Carlson’s TikTok today, The Main Issue, in conversation with Joe Kent, former Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, who recently resigned. Kent was describing what he believes needs to take place, and that Donald Trump is uniquely capable of changing the direction of this war by reeling Israel in. Many in the thread are saying he has no such capability. I see it differently. Archetypally, I believe he is. If anyone can, it is him.
He holds the world in his hands, and as Carl Jung said in the documentary A Matter of Heart:
“The world hangs on a thin thread.”
I want to say something about Trump that most people won’t see unless they understand astrology and Jungian psychology. I’ve studied both for nearly 30 years. Trump is a unique figure, with Sun conjunct Uranus in Gemini and North Node in the 10th house of career. (A legend for reading the chart appears below.) This configuration is, of course, not the whole chart — but it is central. The Sun represents the core of consciousness, much like the Sun in our solar system, organizing and drawing everything toward itself. For this reason, I believe he is capable, and I want to briefly describe why — because a whole book could be written about this configuration.
A person with Sun-North Node conjunct Uranus in Gemini in the 10th is here to individuate publicly — someone whose life path and identity are fused with bringing new, unconventional ideas into the world. They are not meant to follow a traditional path, but to disrupt, awaken, and redefine what success looks like through unapologetic originality. They pivot on a dime when insight strikes, adjusting direction in service of a larger vision — and trust that flexibility is part of their contribution to the collective.
This is the archetype he embodies: a Uranian figure in the 10th house — a visible public individual who does not follow precedent, cannot be dictated to, and makes sudden shifts based on instinct rather than consensus. Whether one agrees with him or not, his style reflects a capacity to disrupt the established order and move quickly when something internally “clicks.”
From a Jungian perspective, he constellates a Uranian principle in the collective — provoking reaction, awakening opposites, and forcing consciousness around authority, truth, and individuality in the public sphere. This description is not about the man — it is about the archetypes moving through him.
This kind of figure becomes a lightning rod. People project onto them — genius or chaos, savior or destroyer — because Uranus breaks continuity and forces consciousness. This capacity to shift direction suddenly is not randomness — it is responsiveness to something perceived beyond the personal. It reflects an attunement to emerging patterns in the collective field, where timing and instinct override consensus and the need for rational thought. What matters is not the figure alone, but how we respond — because that is where consciousness either advances or regresses. The question is not what we think about him, but what is being asked of us as we witness him.
Consciousness is what each of us is being asked to develop. I highly recommend The Undiscovered Self by Jung — he describes with remarkable clarity what we are living through in the collective today.
“We are living in what the Greeks called the kairos — the right moment — for a ‘metamorphosis of the gods,’ of the fundamental principles and symbols. This peculiarity of our time, which is certainly not of our conscious choosing, is the expression of the unconscious man within us who is changing. Coming generations will have to take account of this momentous transformation if humanity is not to destroy itself through the might of its own technology and science. As at the beginning of the Christian era, so again today we are faced with the problem of moral backwardness, which has failed to keep pace with our scientific, technical, and social progress. So much is at stake, and so much depends on the psychological constitution of modern man.Does he know that he is the makeweight that tips the scales?” — Carl Jung, The Undiscovered Self, CW 10, pars. 585-586
The danger is always projection — but the opportunity is consciousness. What unfolds next has the potential to raise the level of awareness for the whole — and each of us is a participant in this world drama.
Much of my work as an astrologer explores how shadow, projection, and relationship become the very ground of transformation. Jung believed that it is through the differentiation of individuals that consciousness evolves. You can review my recent offering, The 7th House Mirror: Why We Choose the Partners We Do, here.
